What is Pilates?
The Pilates system of exercise was originally developed by Joseph Pilates, a German, in the 1920’s. Pilates is a whole body type of exercise that focuses on strengthening (particularly deep abdominal, back and shoulder blade muscles), flexibility, coordination and breathing. Pilates enables each individual to build strength and endurance in a safe and controlled manner while on the mat.
Pilates is specifically beneficial for those who incur recurring injuries and for individuals with spinal and chronic pain. Pilates creates balance in the body enabling and creating a better quality of life and wellbeing. Research shows Pilates combined with manual therapy has a better outcome long term in the treatment of lower back pain.

Why Physio-led Pilates?
What’s the difference! The difference is in the extent of knowledge in anatomy and underlying pathologies of the body. Chartered physiotherapists are movement experts which allows them to tailor each exercise to the individual. This is especially important when dealing with pathology of the spine and in terms of the specific needs of both the pregnant and post-natal mother.

Why a Chartered Physiotherapist?
Chartered physiotherapists are movement experts! They have extensive
training in assessing, diagnosing and treating spinal pathologies. They
can therefore tailor the class to each individual need.
We strongly advise those attending clinical pilates for underlying back or neck pain to undergo our pre pilates assessment to ensure that you are suitable to attend the classes offered. These assessments are offered by a chartered physiotherapist. The pre assessment pilates sessions are available for a discounted price of €40.
We also offer online pilates classes for you to take part via Zoom from the comfort of your own home. These classes are ran in 4 week blocks. 40 euro for a 4 week course. For more information please contact us. Classes are 1 hour long, all you need is a mat and a towel. Class times Tuesdays at 6.30pm.
See below for our online pilates schedule.
